REST: Find Renewal and Wholeness

Rest is not just a luxury—it is a holy and essential practice for our spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being. From the very beginning of creation, God modeled rest: “On the seventh day God finished the work that he had done, and he rested” (Genesis 2:2). Sabbath is more than simply taking a break; it is a sacred rhythm that reminds us we are not defined by our productivity but by our identity as beloved children of God. In a culture that glorifies busyness, choosing to rest becomes an act of trust in God’s provision and care.

Rest can take many forms. It might be setting aside intentional Sabbath time each week to worship, pray, and delight in God’s presence. It could look like stepping away from technology for a few hours, taking a walk in nature, or enjoying a meal with family and friends. Jesus himself demonstrated the importance of rest when he withdrew to quiet places to pray (Mark 1:35; Luke 5:16). By following his example, we find renewal that fuels our ability to love and serve others.

Rest also restores creativity, deepens our relationships, and clears space for joy. For instance, a tired caregiver may discover new patience after a day of Sabbath rest, or someone struggling with decision-making might find clarity after taking time to pause in God’s presence. Rest strengthens us for God’s mission, reminding us of Jesus’ words: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).

Call to Action: How do you balance action and rest in your life? What’s one intentional way you can practice Sabbath rest this week to renew your body, mind, and spirit?
